SHIVA LINGA AND HALF PARIKRAMA-WHY?



Shiva lingam is the mark of Shiva. The whole universe comes from Shiva, stays in him and goes back into him. Shiva has no star and no end, no form, no birth and no death. His presence is the entire universe.
This universe is Shiva but we cannot know this universe, we cannot see it as we are just a small spec with limited insight. Thus, in the form of Shiva Linga we pay respect, love and gratitude to the universe/lord.
The half parikrama of Shiva Linga denotes that no matter how intelligent you may be, no matter how much you know........you can not know the lord and his creations completely. What you know and see is only limited whereas there exists another part that is beyond understanding which is limitless.

HOW DID THE WORD HINDU ORIGINATE? The word Hindu is often misused.The fact is that the BOTH the words "Hindu" and "India" have foreign origin. The word "Hindu" is neither a Sanskrit word nor is this word found in any of the native dialects and languages of India. It should be noted that "Hindu" is NOT a religious word at all. There is no reference of the word "hindu" in the Ancient Vedic Scriptures. It is said that the Persians used to refer to the Indus river as Sindhu.
